Vinyl Privacy and Picket Fence in Melba and the Treasure Valley

Vinyl is the fence you put in and mostly leave alone, with no stain or paint. We build vinyl privacy and picket fence across the Treasure Valley out of Melba. Our photos show white and tan (some makers call tan "almond"), so ask Beau on your estimate about other colors.

Your vinyl fence options

These are the vinyl styles you will see in our photos on this page. Ask Beau on your estimate about heights and any style not shown here.

  • Full privacy. Solid panels, no gaps between boards. Good for backyards, dogs and a busy street.
  • Semi-privacy. Boards with small gaps. It blocks most of the view and lets some wind through.
  • Lattice top. A privacy panel with a strip of lattice along the top. A softer look and a little more light.
  • Picket. Spaced pickets at a lower height. It marks the yard and keeps the view open.
  • Gates. Walk gates and wide double gates that match the fence.

What changes the price

Two vinyl fences of the same length can come out at very different prices. Here is what moves the number.

  • Length. Most fence is figured by the foot. More feet means more panels and posts.
  • Corners, ends and gates. Each one needs its own posts and hardware. A double gate costs more than a walk gate.
  • Style and height. Full privacy takes more material than picket. A lattice top adds to it.
  • Color. Ask Beau on your estimate whether white and tan are priced the same.
  • Slope and ground. Vinyl privacy panels usually step down a hill instead of following it. Rock and hardpan make post holes slower.
  • The old fence. If it has to come out first, that is extra time and hauling.

Send Beau your rough length and a photo, and he’ll come out and give you a straight price.

What to ask on every quote

If you are comparing three quotes, ask each company the same questions. The answers tell you more than the bottom line does.

Ask Beau the same list on your estimate, and write the answers next to each price.

  • How deep are the posts, and are they set in concrete?
  • What is inside the gate posts? Vinyl posts are hollow and flex, so gate posts often get a metal insert to keep the gate from sagging.
  • What brand and wall thickness is the vinyl, and what does the maker's warranty cover?
  • Are gates, latches and post caps in the price?
  • Is tearing out and hauling off the old fence included?
  • Who will actually build it? Beau builds with his son. Ask him who will be on your job.

How long it lasts and what upkeep it needs

Vinyl does not rot, and bugs leave it alone. Good vinyl, set well, can last for decades. Here is what wears on it in the Treasure Valley.

For upkeep, hose it off once or twice a year. A soft brush and mild soap handle most marks. If something does break, we fix vinyl too. See our fence and gate repair page.

  • Wind. A solid privacy panel catches wind like a sail. A big storm can pop panels out of the rails or lean posts over. Semi-privacy and picket let more wind through.
  • Cold. Vinyl gets more brittle in hard cold. A hard knock in January, from a shovel, a car bumper or a thrown rock, can crack a board.
  • Sprinklers. Sprinkler water can leave mineral spots on white vinyl. Aim the heads away from the fence.
  • Gates. Hinges and latches may need a small adjustment as the ground settles.

What happens on the estimate

The estimate is free. Before Beau prices it, it helps to know the rough length, the style and height, where the gates go, and whether an old fence comes out. Ask Beau on your estimate how he measures and when you will have the price.

Have these handy if you can: your HOA rules, a plat or survey if you have one, and where your sprinkler lines run. Questions about timing or warranty? Ask Beau on your estimate.

Questions people ask

Do I need HOA approval for a vinyl fence?

If you live in an HOA, plan on it. Many subdivisions set rules for fence height, color and material. Get the approval in writing before we start. Cities also limit fence height, most of all in front yards.

Who calls 811 before you dig?

Idaho law puts it on whoever does the digging. They have to request a locate through 811 at least two business days ahead, and the utilities then mark their buried lines. 811 does not mark private lines, like sprinkler pipe, power to a shop or a well line, so show us where yours run.

Can the fence go right on the property line?

Often it can, but you and your neighbor should agree where the line is first. If you are not sure, find your survey pins or get a survey. Many people set the fence a few inches inside their own line to head off arguments later.

Can you fix my vinyl fence instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. We repair vinyl fence and gates, including storm damage. Whether a broken piece can be matched depends on the style and the maker, so send a photo with your estimate request or ask Beau on your estimate.
